How Much Do Hurricane-Proof Prefab Homes Cost?

Living in a storm-prone area means you need to prepare for the possibility of a hurricane. Here at Home Nation, we understand this. That's why we provide our customers flexible, reliable options for hurricane-proof prefabricated homes.

The unfortunate experience of going through a hurricane can make you think twice about making a large purchase like this, but knowing that your home is protected can help ease some of the worries.

Not only are our homes constructed from high-quality, durable materials, but they also come with an affordable price tag. With the rising need for durable, hurricane-resistant construction, studies have discovered that prefabricated homes can withstand hurricane damage more effectively than conventional stick-built houses.

Let's look at all the factors that play a role in a hurricane-proof modular homes' cost.

Price of a Hurricane-Proof Prefab Home

A hurricane-proof modular home's cost can range from $180,000 to $360,000. Many homes are closer to $270,000. Others are much less than this range. Overall, the price depends on the home's size, customization, and complexity.

Factors That Determine a Hurricane-Proof Modular Homes' Cost

These factors determine the cost of a hurricane-proof prefabricated home.

Floor Plan

Modular houses can have numerous bedrooms. The bigger the number of sleeping quarters in a home, the longer and more costly it will be to finish constructing. A one-bedroom prefab home can cost up to $75,000. A four-bedroom modular home can cost upwards of $188,000. Expect those prices to more than double for custom designs.

Style

Homebuyers can choose to purchase a tiny home, a small house, a townhouse, a cottage, a ranch house, a log cabin, a duplex, or a single-family home. For instance, a tiny home can range from $50,000 to $100,000, while a cottage can cost up to $460,000. These are two examples of homes that won't fall into the average price range for a hurricane-proof prefabricated home.

Number of Stories

Modular stories come in one, two, and three-story frames. The price increases based on the number of stories mainly due to construction and labor. The stories get delivered in pieces instead of just one unit. The builders will also need to rent or purchase extra equipment to build the house.

The average price for a basic one-story modular home that's 1500 square feet runs at about $76,500. As you add stories and custom add-ons, the cost goes up. A two-story modular home between 1500 and 2500 square feet starts at $131,500. A three-story home that's between 2000 and 3500 square feet will be about $207,000

Overall Size

The base price for a modular home is between 100 and 200 per square foot. That price includes installation. Some builders add on the price for delivery, while others don't. Always check with your builders to understand the fees involved so you stay within budget.

Brand

Hurricane-proof modular homes' cost can vary depending on the brand. To get the best deal and quality, do your research to find a reliable company. Some of the most modular home brands include:

- Clayton Modular Homes

- Kent Homes

- Huntington Homes

- Champion Modular Homes

- Pratt Homes

Delivery

We've mentioned delivery fees, but they're worth mentioning again. Not all companies will add a delivery fee to their hurricane-proof modular homes' cost. Expect to pay between $5 and $10 per square foot. That's an average of $3,000 and $12,000 per delivery.

Other factors that can impact the price are distance and how many vehicles are needed to complete it. If the builders use a crane to install the home, it will increase the delivery price.

Foundation

Every modular home requires a foundation. If you don't have pre-existing space, you'll need a foundation. The foundation is the space between the ground and the home. It's used for plumbing, electrical, heating, and cooling connections. The cost of a foundation will depend on the size, type, and materials used to build it.

Constructing a solid base for your modular home can cost between $6,000 and $20,000 or an average of $7 to $30 per square foot. Many homeowners spend approximately 8,500 dollars on their foundation. If you are building a basement foundation, expect to pay $44,500. Pier and beam, crawl space, stilt, and piling are other foundation types that can impact the price.

Labor and Installation

Labor and installation costs range from $5 to $35 per square foot. The price will vary based on the complexity of the build and how difficult it is for the workers to access the area. After delivery, contractors will complete the build using a process called buttoning up.

Buttoning up includes installing insulation, windows, siding, roofing, connecting appliances, and conducting an inspection to ensure the house meets all codes. This process can take anywhere from three days to two weeks, depending on the size of the home.

Taxes, Permits, and Fees

Taxes usually cost between $5,000 and $10,000. Permits can range from $500 to $5,000. These prices vary based on location. Check with local, state, and federal agencies for more information on taxes, permits, and fees.

Add-ons

If you want a garage, driveway, pool, fence, landscaping, basement, or even a custom deck, these are additional costs not included in the base price. The cost of add-ons can range from $5,000 to $100,000, depending on the size and complexity of the project.
