An ADU or “Accessory Dwelling Unit” is a 2nd smaller home on the same lot as an existing single family home. Also known as a ‘Backyard home’ ‘Granny flat’ or ‘Mother-in-Law suite’, these homes contain all the amenities found in a primary residence - A kitchen, bathroom, sleeping area and utilities all built in a code compliant but smaller stand-alone residence.
Recently many forward thinking zoning districts throughout the country - recognizing the need to address the chronic shortage in housing - have passed ordinances to allow ADUs to be built in the backyard of a typical home and connected to existing utilities. You must confirm zoning with your Zoning or Building department before ordering one of our ADU packages to ensure that they will be permitted to be installed in your backyard.
A typical ADU can cost over $100,000, but with our BackYard Home Package you will save tens of thousands of dollars.
Our ADUs come as a package delivered to your property. 80% of the components of the ADU home (other than the foundation) are delivered with the package. The central component is the Builder Module that contains the kitchen, bathroom and 80% of the utilities - all built into one Module. The module comes in two sizes - 8ft x 12ft and 8ft x 16ft. The home is assembled around this module after it is set onto a small crawl space. The pre-assembled roof panels are then lowered onto the structure and the rest of the inside (some wiring, drywall, trim and flooring) is finished. You or your Construction Manager are responsible for this assembly (under our direction) and to obtain any required permits and inspections.
Building an ADU on your lot will not only add additional living area, it will increase the value of your property. Building an ADU with the Home Nation BackYard Home Package that includes the Builder Module is by far the most cost effective way to add an ADU to your property.
